| Communication Chain of Command

The Thomaston Board of Education recognizes that communication is a continuous two-way process. The Board believes that it is important to keep the public informed about educational programs, and, in turn, that the community should have the opportunity to provide input. The most effective communication method for our staff, parents, and community members is the Communication Chain of Command.

For example, if you have a question about a matter related to the needs of your child, you should contact your child’s teacher. If you are not satisfied with the response at this level, or if you do not receive a response within a few days, you should go to the school principal. When you contact the school principal, you will be asked if you contacted the teacher and if you have allowed a few days for the teacher to respond. If you contacted the teacher in the morning and the teacher has not contacted you by the afternoon, it is too soon to contact the school principal.

If you are not satisfied with the response at this level, or if you do not receive a response within a few days, you should go to the Superintendent of Schools. When you contact the Superintendent of Schools, you will be asked if you contacted the teacher, and then you will be asked if you contacted the school principal. You will also be asked when you contacted the teacher and school principal to determine if you have allowed a few days for the teacher and/or principal to respond. If you contacted the teacher or school principal in the morning and the teacher or school principal has not contacted you by the afternoon, it is too soon to contact the Superintendent of Schools.

If you are not satisfied with the response at this level, or if you do not receive a response within a few days, you should email the Board of Education using the form below. When you contact the Board of Education, you will be asked if you adhered to the Communication Chain of Command.

Communication Chain of Command

Staff Member Closest to the Question ---> Supervisor ---> Superintendent ---> Board of Education

If your issue involves athletics, there is a slightly different chain to follow.

Communication Chain of Command for Athletics

Coach ---> Athletic Director ---> School Principal ---> Superintendent ---> Board of Education

The Thomaston Board of Education asks that you use this chain of command so that you can receive a timely response from the staff member that is most directly involved in the situation. As you move further along the chain of command, the staff is less directly involved and will require more time to research the situation than those most directly involved before they can provide a response.

Chain of Command Exception for PPT Requests

If you wish to request a PPT for your child, please contact the Pupil-Personnel Services Department.
